The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music The Associated Board is the world's leading provider of theory and practical music exams and assessments. Each year around 600,000 candidates take the exams in more than 80 countries around the world. In The Bahamas theory exams are held twice a year, usually on the first Saturday in March and November. Practical exams are held in early March.
The main centres for the theory exams are in Nassau and Freeport but there also centres established in many of the Family Islands including Abaco, Andros, Cat Island, Eleuthera,Harbour Island, Exuma, Acklins and Long Island. Schools may act as an individual centre for the theory exams, provided that an administrator is prepared to take responsibility for the administration of the examination. Practical exams are held presently in Nassau and Freeport but can also be arranged in the Family Islands if there are enough candidates to warrant a visit by the examiner.
Please note that a Grade 5 theory pass is required for entry into the Bachelor of Music Education programme at The College of The Bahamas and a Grade 4 is preferred for entry into either the Police Band or the Defence Force Band. Practical passes are also required for all the above.
Theory workbooks, piano exam pieces, scales and sight-reading books are available from The Good News Book Store in the Town Centre Mall in Nassau Tel: 323-4405. The books for the Brass and Woodwind exams can be obtained online from musicroom.com. Theory past papers are available directly from me.
